WHAT IS THE TURKEY BREAST BOWL?
Founded by Corday, the Turkey Breast Bowl was originally an All-Girl (thus the word BREAST) flag football game celebrating our love of football season. After numerous years of good times, the game became increasingly competitive as we all got a bit older, resulting in injuries at every game. In 2021, we decided to create a kinder gentler game -- and play KICKBALL instead of football. This doesn't mean we aren't still highly competitive!
The kickball tournament consists of 3 nail-biting single-elimination games, with players all fighting to take home the big prize -- the perpetual turkey trophy. We have real referees and a damn fun commentator who will entertain you with play-by-play and announcements. Games are timed, and once time is up the winning team moves on to the next round. Players and spectators are welcome!! Players must be on the field by 10:30am in athletic attire, closed toe shoes. EVERYONE is welcome to watch! Spectator stands will be open! That's where you'll get the best view and play-by-play. BYO snacks and drinks (no alcohol/open containers as per City Rules). Player fee is $25 and includes an exclusive Turkey Breast Bowl T-Shirt. You also have the option of donating to FARM SANCTUARY to help sponsor a turkey or two! There is no charge to watch the games, but we encourage everyone to order a T-Shirt, and donate to help a turkey if you can. Scroll down to read more about the turkeys...
Awards Ceremony and Corday Concert immediately follow the tournament at Hennessey's Tavern (143 Main St) in Seal Beach from 3pm-7pm.
You decide how much! $5 minimum. Every $35 sponsors one turkey. $150 sponsors a flock. Any amount helps.
100% of whatever you donate to the turkeys will be passed on to Farm Sanctuary, supporting the day-to-day care of at-risk, abused, neglected and injured turkeys at Farm Sanctuary, a 26 acre home to approximately 100 rescued farm animals, located on a beautiful hacienda ranch in Acton, Los Angeles. Farm Sanctuary does amazing work with turkeys and you can read all about it HERE.
Elsa was one of 24 baby turkeys left in our care. They likely came from a factory farm. The birds were debeaked and had upper respiratory infections; some were too weak to stand.
Most turkeys raised for meat are slaughtered by the time they’re five months old; Elsa is eight years old today. Despite her previous mistreatment, Elsa enjoys our attention. As “The Best Friend” of her flock, she also brings the party wherever she goes. Everyone loves Elsa and wants to be a part of her world!
Sandy’s former guardian saved her from slaughter but failed to give her proper care — housing her with several males, causing severe bruising and feather loss. Sandy also had a painful, untreated foot infection.
In 2016, Farm Sanctuary evacuated our Acton, California shelter during a wildfire. We met Sandy at an evacuation site and, noticing her poor health, offered to take on her care.
Despite her previous mistreatment, Sandy, “The Sweetheart” of the flock, loves attention from humans. She enjoys cuddling, often climbing into her caregivers’ laps, and chirping along to music when they listen together.
Galadriel is a majestic bird who values the finer things in life, from dust bathing to relaxing with friends and awaiting service from her caregivers. While shy around people, she accepts treats and attention – on her terms.
Unfortunately, her former guardians failed to give the Royal Palm turkey the royal treatment she deserved – or proper care in general. A rescuer alerted us to her situation, and we brought Galadriel home to Farm Sanctuary.
Here, Galadriel “The Graceful” rules her own life — and our hearts.
